“The team went above and beyond to accommodate challenging and tight timelines and were a pleasure to work with”

R3 has produced a series of videos as an integral part of promotions and communications for the Equal Access, Safe Water for Schools Challenge 2023. Sol showed great understanding of the production process and reaching desired outcomes, and his guidance and input was invaluable.

Anna Itkonen
Strategic Advisor, SkyJuice Foundation

Founded in 2005, the SkyJuice Foundation is an Australian not for profit organisation dedicated to delivering safe, sustainable drinking water to communities in need. Using patented passive membrane technology, SkyJuice designs and deploys water treatment systems for humanitarian, emergency and disaster relief projects around the world. Guided by its vision of Safe Water For Every Child, the foundation works in partnership with global organisations including UNICEF, World Vision, the Red Cross, Rotary and Oxfam to deliver practical, life changing solutions in some of the world’s most challenging environments.

R3 has partnered with SkyJuice for several years across a range of communications initiatives, supporting the organisation to articulate its impact, explain complex technology with clarity and connect its work to real human outcomes. This partnership has evolved over time to encompass strategy advisory, video production, storytelling, campaign strategy and high stakes award support, all delivered through a collaborative and flexible working relationship focused squarely on SkyJuice’s success.

The opportunity

In 2023, SkyJuice introduced the Responder, a compact water treatment unit capable of providing safe drinking water for up to 100 people per day. Designed for rapid deployment in emergency and remote contexts, the product represented a significant innovation within SkyJuice’s portfolio. The immediate challenge was how to communicate the value, functionality and impact of the Responder through video, despite having little to no existing product imagery. This constraint was common given the environments in which SkyJuice operates.

At the same time, SkyJuice had recently completed a water purification project in Northern Thailand in partnership with the East Taipei Rotary Club, delivering SkyHydrant units to three schools. They sought to capture and share the impact of this project using limited available footage, while ensuring the story remained respectful, authentic and grounded in real outcomes.

Beyond these immediate needs, SkyJuice was also preparing submissions for major international recognition, including the Zayed Sustainability Award. This represented a rare and meaningful opportunity. Success would not simply deliver profile or validation for the SkyJuice Foundation, but tangible funding, capable of significantly increasing SkyJuice’s production capacity and global impact.

The approach

R3 approached all aspects of the engagement with a focus on clarity, ingenuity and partnership. Rather than allowing content or resource limitations to constrain outcomes, the approach centred on finding practical creative solutions that remained true to SkyJuice’s mission and operating reality.

For the Responder video, R3 combined carefully selected stock footage and created custom 3D animation to bring the product to life. This allowed the functionality, portability and effectiveness of the Responder to be clearly explained without relying on real world product visuals. The storytelling positioned the unit not simply as equipment, but as a solution with immediate and meaningful human impact.

For the Northern Thailand project video, R3 worked with existing footage supplied by the East Taipei Rotary Club. Through considered editing and narrative structure, the content was shaped into a concise and engaging story that highlighted the difference access to safe water makes in school communities. Across both pieces, the emphasis remained on people, outcomes and purpose, ensuring the content felt credible and grounded.

In preparation for the Zayed Sustainability Award, the R3 team provided strategic guidance, campaign thinking and hands-on support for the award submission itself. This included shaping the narrative, refining key messages and producing compelling, high impact videos that clearly articulated SkyJuice’s innovation, scale and real world outcomes across multiple countries. Throughout this phase, R3 operated as a flexible and deeply invested partner, adapting to SkyJuice’s capacity, priorities and constraints, and contributing wherever needed to maximise the strength of the submission.

Delivery and implementation

R3 delivered a suite of video assets and supporting strategic guidance designed to perform across multiple contexts, from stakeholder engagement and partner communications to award submissions and broader awareness initiatives. The work formed part of an ongoing collaboration, contributing to a growing library of storytelling assets that SkyJuice continues to draw upon as it scales its operations and impact.

Impact

In 2025, SkyJuice Foundation won the Zayed Sustainability Award in the Water category. This not only put SkyJuice Foundation further on the radar of key NGO’s, Disaster Relief organisations and Governments, the award included one million US dollars to support SkyJuice Foundation achieve further impact. This was not an agency award or a symbolic accolade, but a globally recognised outcome with direct and transformative impact. The funding will enable SkyJuice to upgrade and expand its production capability, allowing the foundation to deliver safe drinking water to even more communities around the world.

The videos and storytelling developed with R3 played a central role in supporting this success, clearly communicating SkyJuice’s innovation, credibility and humanitarian impact to a global audience. For SkyJuice, the outcome represents a step change in capacity and reach. For R3, it demonstrates the value of being a committed, collaborative partner, applying storytelling, strategy and craft in service of outcomes that genuinely matter.
